Why Flor exists
Why we're building Flor.
Every nursing platform says the job search is broken. Flor is what a nurse built after living through it.

What started this
Jessica Facey, RN spent five years on a med-surg floor at Rhode Island Hospital. She moved to a PACE program, and the caseload wasn't the right fit for her. So she did what every nurse does next. She opened Indeed to look for a home care job.
She couldn't filter out Massachusetts. Agencies booked her for interviews that turned out to be screening calls for jobs that didn't exist. Her phone and inbox filled with third-party recruiters who didn't know her name or her specialty. Pay was “competitive,” which meant hidden. She wasn't searching for a job anymore. She was searching for a way to search.
She isn't unusual. We went and asked nurses in ten states. Most of them have a version of this story.
I was told I was being hired to a med/surg light neuro ICU and it ended up being a heart failure/transplant ICU.
What nurses told us
Before we built anything, we surveyed working nurses across ten states: staff, per diem, and between jobs, from hospitals, clinics, long-term care, and home health. The results decided what we built first.
Agency spam
Messages from third-party recruiters who don't know your name or your specialty.
Ghost job posts
You apply. Nothing happens. The job was never real.
Hidden pay
"Competitive salary" means they don't want you to know.
Zero feedback
No updates, no timeline, no respect.
What they asked for. What we built.
Nurses asked for
Pay on every listing. It was the top trust factor, by a wide margin.
On Flor
A partner listing cannot go live on Flor without a pay range. No “competitive,” no “DOE.” Jobs we find on an employer’s careers page show pay when the employer posted it, and say “Pay not posted” when they didn’t.
Nurses asked for
Verified, current posts only.
On Flor
Partner listings come from employers who signed up and want the applicants, and we review each one before it goes live. Everything else is labeled “Found on [employer]’s careers page,” and we check that page every day and pull the job when it comes down.
Nurses asked for
No spam from third-party recruiters. No middlemen.
On Flor
Employers only. No staffing agencies, no third-party recruiters, no lead generators. Your contact info is never sold.
Nurses asked for
The job I show up to should match the job I was promised.
On Flor
Partner employers disclose caseload and schedule on the listing, before you apply.
Nurses asked for
Filters that matter: setting, unit, shift, location.
On Flor
The Flor Fit Score ranks every job by setting, specialty, population, schedule, and commute.
Nurses asked for
A real answer from the facility.
On Flor
Partner applications go straight to the employer’s portal and inbox. For a job found on a careers page, you apply on the employer’s own site. Either way, no middleman.
Every nurse tells us her license type, number, and state when she signs up, and that's what the employer sees. License verification through Nursys is coming; it will never be required to apply. Partner employers, the ones who post on Flor, sign the Flor Partner Pledge: pay transparency, honest job descriptions, no bait-and-switch on duties or schedule, respectful communication. Jobs found on a careers page come from employers who haven't signed it, which is why they're labeled.
Who Flor is for
Nurses who want permanent work, not a 13-week contract. Travel agencies and per-diem staffing pools are not on Flor. Employers of every size that hire nurses directly, from a single home care office to a hospital system, are.
Where we're starting
Rhode Island first, because that's where Jess is and where our first employer and our first nurses are. North Carolina next, with employers we've signed. Each market gets the same rules.
The team
Co-Founder & CEO
Grace Mathews
Born and raised in Rhode Island, now in Charlotte, NC. A decade in luxury automotive sales. Runs Flor's vision, fundraising and go-to-market.
Co-Founder & CCO
Jessica Facey, RN
Rhode Island born, raised, and still practicing. Five years on a med-surg floor at Rhode Island Hospital, then PACE. Her job search is the reason Flor exists.
None of this fixes the search Jess ran. But the next nurse opening a job board at 2 a.m. after a night shift should at least see the pay, the real setting, and only jobs she can actually take.
88% of the nurses we surveyed said they're likely to use Flor for their next job. That's who this is for.
